This footage was taken during a practice test for a cargo drop.

During this stage of falling, we are enraptured by the sensation of drifting.
We are spectators in our own private theater, quietly musing at the psychosomatic sympathy of being suspended between stable points of reference.
Within a matter of several seconds, we are relinquished of this psychosomatic instability as the bundle skids to a stop and, for the many seconds that follow, reassure us of our relation to the fixed horizon.
For a moment, we assume a position that would be on the same horizontal plane as the receiving constituents of such an airdrop.

In August of 2014, the United States, British, and Iraqi cargo planes dropped bundles of survival supplies to the roughly 60,000 Yazidi refugees who had fled from an ISIS siege,
into the mile-high Sinjar Mountains of northern Iraq.

In the months following the drop of survival supplies,
US air squadrons delivered fire to the area of Sinjar that had been overtaken by the Islamic State,
opening a path for more Yazidi refugees to flee. In Yazidi mythology,
the highest peak of the mountains was the safety of mortal creatures during the cleansing of the earth,
in which chaos was washed away in a great flood.
It is this peak that they take refuge upon; this peak that government aid was delivered by air.
